# Liccium Desktop app

Liccium Desktop is an application for individual creators and rightsholders that generates a content fingerprint (ISO 24138) for each of your media files and lets you make public, verifiable declarations about them – who made the work, what rights apply, how AI was involved, and whether it may be used for AI training.

Liccium Desktop does this on your own computer. Your files are not uploaded to a cloud service – Liccium reads them where they already are, generates the ISCC codes locally and publishes only the signed declaration you choose to make.

## How it works

Liccium Desktop follows three steps.

1. **Fingerprint** – Liccium generates ISCC codes from the content of each file. The same or a similar code can be regenerated from the file by anyone, at any time, without access to your computer or files.
2. **Describe** – you add the information that should travel with your work: title, creator, rights status, licence, AI preferences and sector-specific metadata, using plugins.
3. **Declare** – Liccium signs the declaration with your key, adds a trusted timestamp and publishes it to public registries, where people and machines can look it up by fingerprint.

Because the declaration refers to the content fingerprint, not to a file name, a URL or embedded metadata, it can still be found when the file is renamed, converted, re-encoded, stripped of its metadata or shared beyond your control.

## What you can do with Liccium Desktop

### Fingerprint your whole library

Point Liccium at a folder and it generates an ISCC for every image, text document, audio file and video it finds. Pinned folders are re-indexed automatically when files are added, moved, renamed or changed. You can also add single files, or add a web page by its URL.

### Describe your work with plugins

Plugins decide which kinds of information you can attach to a declaration: a Creative Commons licence, a reservation of text and data mining for AI (TDMrep), a disclosure of AI involvement (FAIA), photo industry metadata fields (IPTC), bibliographic information (Text), release information (Music) and Content Credentials (C2PA). You set defaults once and adjust them for individual files where needed.

### State your preferences for AI training

With the TDMrep plugin you can reserve your text and data mining rights for a single file, a folder or your entire library. The reservation is published in a machine-readable form that AI developers and crawlers can check per content fingerprint, not only by the location where they found the file. A reservation states your rights and your preference; it does not remove content from data sets that have already been collected.

### Be transparent about AI involvement

With the FAIA plugin you disclose how a work was made – created by a person, made with the help of AI tools, or generated by AI. Declarations with FAIA information are published on [FAIA.io](https://faia.io).

#### Sign, publish, update and withdraw declarations

Liccium signs each declaration with a key held in your installation, adds a trusted timestamp and publishes it to [Liccium Search](https://search.liccium.com/), [FAIA.io](https://faia.io) and [Optout.directory](https://optout.directory). If your rights or information change, a new declaration supersedes the previous one, and you can withdraw a declaration from the public registries at any time.

### Connect your declarations to your identity

Verifiable Credentials show that a declaration comes from you as a person or organisation. Liccium Desktop works with Creator Credentials today.

### Find duplicates and search your library

Because ISCC codes are derived from content, Liccium finds copies and near-copies across your library, even when file names, formats or resolutions differ. You can also search by title, creator, full text or any plugin field.

### Your files stay with you

Liccium never uploads your files or their contents, never modifies, moves or deletes your original files, and never publishes information you did not choose to declare. The only information that leaves your computer is the declaration you publish – the content fingerprint and the information you attached to it.

### Plans

Liccium Desktop is available in five plans – Free, Creator, Studio, Professional and Enterprise. The Free plan includes a limited number of declarations to test the app and the Creative Commons, TDMrep and FAIA plugins. The paid plans include all plugins and a larger number of declarations.

### In development

The following features are being prepared for future releases:

* self-verification by signing in with Bluesky, LinkedIn, Apple ID or Google, with a credential issued under an EU trust service certificate;
* automatic declarations for Bluesky posts carrying a chosen tag, running on Liccium's servers so they work while your computer is off;
* encrypted backup of your library and your signing key, and synchronisation across several devices;

### Availability

Liccium Desktop is not yet available for download. Visit liccium.com for updates on its release and sign-up to become an early user via [https://liccium.com](https://liccium.com/).
